[knitting] Child's Aran Sweater

Here's the finished bulky sweater for my niece:

I love it, it's super squishy. I think my seaming turned out well:

This received a 2nd place ribbon at the fair. There were no notes on the name card (there were no notes on any of my fiber entries- but there were on my baked items) so I'm not sure what the problem was. At first I thought it was the seaming but after a discussion about tension at last night's knit group, I think it's because you can tell (esp when looking at the wrong side) that my tension is off when I'm purling. Oops.

This sweater was knit in pieces. I can be a tight knitter but loose purler. And you can see that in the fabric. Oh well, something to think about (and remember) when making sweater pieces in the future. But I don't think my three-year-old niece is going to notice.

[knitting] Bulky Sweater Pieces

Since the shawl is slow-going, I whipped up some sweater pieces for my niece:

The pattern is 2721 Child's Aran Sweater by Plymouth. I'm using Berroco Vintage Chunky yarn (less than three skeins for the 4-year-old size).

So it's knit in pieces and you have to seam. I don't mind- it's tedious but when done correctly and with the right tension, it's invisible. I understand the appeal of seamed sweaters- the seams give it better structure and it's more... tailored?

But I would not want to do this for an adult fingering-weight sweater. It took a couple hours to seam this toddler sweater- and I had to do the sleeves a few times because it was tricky with the increases at the edges.

This is a plush and sqwooshy sweater- and she was determined to lay down on the pieces. 

The sweater is actually done done. I just have to wash/block. I think it will take a few days to dry because of how thick the yarn is. Then it's ready for the faaaaiiiiirrrr.

TGIF AND I'M ON VACATION. I'm taking next week off. The next time I post here, I'll probably have a lot to show. Items that went into the fair and how they did. [knitting] Starfall Sweater

The start of my Starfall sweater:

The yarn is Knit Picks Main Line, 75% cotton / 25% wool. Long since discontinued-  I've had a sweater's worth of this stuff in my stash for a decade. I think Knit Picks was a new company when I ordered it.

Hope to cast on for the body this weekend.

Little cardigan for my niece:



Pattern: Welcome to the Flock (rav link)

Yarn: Regia Active (currently on closeout at Webs)

Needles US 3 (ribbing), US 5 (body)



Notes: I made the 6 month size and went up one needle size to made it a little bit bigger. I also made the white body of the sheep with purl stitches to make them look poofy:




The sweater is still drying but I have nice little silver buttons I'll use. This will be entered to the fair- which, by the way, I have to submits the forms for by the end of the month. Gotta keep knitting, gotta keep knitting...
